Repairs & Alterations to Existing Infrastructure - a Systems Project Management Approach
A building repair and restoration model based on the project management strategy is presented. This project management strategy will structure a project repair and alterations delivery aligned with building code and regulations as determined by SME team. The proposed building repair solution will include an approved: scope of work, schedule, and budget.
Description
Events impacting building performance life cycle and their respective solutions are presented in this course. Events that can require repairs and alterations to buildings may include one or more of the following:
1. change in occupancy
2. normal wear and tear
3. indoor air quality issues similar to legionaries disease or coronavirus effects
4. acts of God and/or disasters as – hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, fires, terrorist activity, etc.
These events produce complex building repair and alterations needs. In order to effectively and efficiently tackle these complex building repair and alterations issues, a project team of subject matter experts (SME) can evaluate the building's existing conditions to propose a solution. This solution can include:a scope of work, estimated repair costs, conceptual drawings and specifications.
The SME project team may include one or more of the following: architects, engineers, industrial hygienists, construction estimators, specification writer, project/construction managers and/or experienced construction contractors. .
